Like most people I do like the odd piece of cake and usually I would either head down to the local store or if I was in the mood I would bake one, never did I think that I could actually have a cake sent to me through the post… Do you know that was a real thing?
Well it is and I recently had a cake made for my wedding anniversary by bakerdays and I will definitely be using them again. You should try them too, especially when you can use my discount code: HAYLEYRYAN15 which will give you a 15% discount, valid until 31st July.
What is a letterbox cake?
I asked myself exactly the same question the first time I heard of them and the answer is just as you would expect… it is a cake that fits through your letterbox and is delivered by your postman/courier which is ideal for just one or two people. Yep I know, the first thing you ask is ‘how doesn’t it get damaged when it is shipped and dropped through the letterbox? Simple, along with the cake you get a really cute tin that protects it during it’s journey. The cake and the tine are then placed inside a box for a little bit if added protection and dispatched. As you can see from the images, it arrived in perfect condition.
And who are bakerdays?
bakerdays was founded by Andrea Guzyova and greeting card entrepreneur Alan Hawkes, whose passion for cakes (mainly eating them) is only exceeded by a knack of creating the perfect cake design for every occasion and is situation in Nottinghamshire. They deliver amazing gift and celebration cakes all over the UK and to ensure that your cake stays delicious and doesn’t perish, they deliver the next day.
They have a huge selection of cakes to choose from so whether you are after a birthday cake or a congratulatory cake you can scroll through their existing designs and choose one. Can’t find one that jumps out at you, no problem… their design team can handle that for you. All you need to do is let them know what you want, choose a flavour (vanilla, chocolate, fruit, red velvet, gluten free, etc) and tell them when you want it delivered and hey presto!
As I mentioned, I had a cake made for my wedding anniversary and it was absolutely delicious. I looked through the designs on the website and couldn’t decide which one to choose to I opted to go a little more personal. Me and Matt have a little phrase that we often say to each other;
I love you more than monkeys love bananas
I asked them to create a vanilla flavoured cake centred around this phrase and then waited in anticipation of what the cake would look like. Spoiler alert! I wasn’t disappointed…
A couple of days later it arrived. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it went through the letterbox fine and was fully intact. Upon opening the box I was greeted by a little card (which you can add a personalised message to if you wish) and the cutest little tin ever. Inside the tin was the cake (obviously), it looked and smelled delicious and both me and Matt couldn’t wait to try it!
Not surprisingly it tasted just as good as it looked… the sponge was light and fluffy, the addition of the buttercream and jam was a lovely taste sensation without being too sweet and the icing was perfect. It easily cut into quarters to give two days worth of eating for the both of us and it tasted just as good on the second day as it did the first.
As you can tell, I loved it and can’t wait for an excuse to order another one, which probably won’t be long as they have cakes for every occassion you can think of.
