Shorts are a particular fashion item that up until recently I had a love-hate relationship with. I loved how shorts looked on other people but hated them on myself. Luckily I got over my insecurities just in time for this year’s heatwave and now I can’t get enough of them.
My favourites are the ones that I tend to make myself. When I say make, I mean cut from old jeans that have started to wear through in the thigh area. They are lived in, comfortable and I can vary the length to suit. The trick with cutting them is to make sure you cut on an angle. To get the best fit they should be shorter on the outer thigh and about an inch or two longer on the inner thigh. If you prefer to buy yours ready to wear here are a few options for you.

My second favourite shorts are most definitely of the high waisted variety. They are so versatile and great for nights out when the weather is rediculously warm and they keep all my jiggly bits in check so I am free to throw some shapes on the dancefloor without feeling self conscious. You may also know that rompers are my absolute favourite thing in the world and it’s so easy to replicate the look and feel by matching a stylish pair of high waisted shorts with a top of the same colour.
Personally, I am not a huge fan of hotpants as I tend to feel a little self-conscious if I am out in public. That said, I absolutely love wearing them around the house. You absolutely can’t beat a cute pair of hotpants with either a band tee or an oversized jumper – such a cute way to dress down an iconically sexy garment.

When it comes to describing my style I would say that I am mainly a casual kind of girl. I adore anything comfortable and cosy and although I love to get all glammed up, I am more than happy in what I like to refer to as my loungewear. Casual shorts are great as they come in so many different styles and lengths. I mostly go for the shorter athletic or cargo styles. Bermudas are great, and I have been known to rock the odd pair when frolicking in the sea but I don’t tend to wear anything that lays on or below my knees very often because at 5ft4in anything too long can make me look even shorter.
With summer on the way out and autumn knocking, Capris are the perfect in between. They are also great, if like me, you sometimes don’t feel like showing your legs. Length can vary with capris so it’s mainly a case of experimenting to see if you prefer something that is more like a slightly shrunken pair of trousers or a classic top to mid-calf length.
