First of all, happy New Year to everyone.
Over the past week I have been doing a little inward reflection to work out what my goals are in life and what will make me most happy going forward. Now, I’m not setting myself a New Years Resolution or anything like that because, well here’s the thing… Everytime I have set myself them in the past i have broken them within a week as I literally have the breaking strain of a Kit Kat.
So this time I have decided to look at all the things throughout my 33 years of life that made me happy but now don’t do as much. Obviously as you get older, you have more responsibilties and life tends to pull you away from certain things but to this I say ‘no more!’. I am claiming back the joys of my former years and my goal for 2018 is to simply do more of what made me happy in my youth.
So what is on this list I hear you ask?
Life Goals for 2018
Be more adventurous
One thing I noticed when I was looking through some old photographs is how much more I used to travel and get out and about whether is was going surfing/coasteering down in Cornwall or heading to Vegas for a nice getaway. Now I know exactly why I don’t travel as much anymore and that is because I have a mortgage to finish paying of and bigger responsibilities now, like my family but that doesn’t mean I can’t get out and about and do more of the things I enjoy.
So this year I plan to visit more places, even if it is just somewhere 10 minutes up the road that I have never been to, I plan to get to more gigs to see the musicians I love, to go to a dance class or some other activity I have been wanting to try for a long time and I plan to travel abroad at least once in 2018.
Read more books
I tend to read a fair bit of non-fiction when I read and recently started reading a set of books by a writer named K A Dowling (review coming soon) and it made me realise how great it is to get swept away in the imaginary worlds that reading can throw you into so this one is an absolute no brainer. I plan to read lots more fiction during 2018 and I am going to try to focus on independent authors too.
Step outside of my comfort zone every now and again
I have a love hate relationship with fashion at the minute because I tend to wear the same thing over and over, I don’t wear dresses often, I don’t wear suits and I tend to try to cover up most of the time so I wear what I feel I should wear by societal standards and only seem to get dressed up once in a blue moon. In fact most days you will see me in a pair of jeans, a graphic tee, some sort of jumper or cardigan, a pair of trainers and my hair up in a messy bun because that is my go to look.
Once again, looking through my old photos I noticed that I used to wear a lot of colour and things that society would have told me not to wear because it doesn’t suit my body size but you know what – I looked damn good so one of my biggest goals for this year is to wear what the hell I want and even try to step outside of my comfort zone when it comes to fashion – I’ve even gone and bought myself a crop top and I haven’t worn one of those since I was about 16 and a size 12, lol.
I started this last year but due to a lot of anxiety issues it kind of fell by the wayside and I struggled to get back into it so for 2018 I intend to pick up where I left off but with one subtle difference – each month my goal is to try a different celebrity workout to keep things interesting. Let me know which celebrity work outs you would most like to see my try.
Writing and blogging
I have been dabbling in the world of writing and blogging for a while now but 2018 is the year I really want to concentrate on turning it into something real. So my goal here is simple – write more, write well, connect with an audience and build up a following.
